Massage stimulates the circulatory system and can lower blood pressure, heart rate and breathing patterns producing calmness in the body; these effects also increase oxygen to the body's cells which promotes healing and improved metabolic function. Massage balances the nervous system and produces endorphins, creating a sense of well-being and calm. Lymphatic massage stimulates the flow of lymphatic fluid as well as cleansing lymph nodes and tissue of toxins, waste products and excess fluid; this also results in increased functioning of the immune system. Massage increases range of motion along with stretching and loosening tight muscles, and decreases pain; these effects can improve posture and general physical functioning.
These benefits of massage therapy can be experienced from the various styles of massage: Swedish, Deep Tissue, Thai Stretching, and Lymphatic which is particularly helpful post-trauma such as surgery. All massage styles are available during pregnancy with your doctor's permission.
Relaxation and improved sense of physical functioning help us all feel better. With this, we become more conscious of the ways we hold tension, creating the possibility of making positive changes in our bodies and our lives. Come in and try it!
